When you buy a property jointly with someone else, unless you have made other arrangements, it is likely that you will be holding the property as joint tenants. This means that whoever lives the longest will take the whole property regardless of what is contained in your will.
You may decide that you do not want this and that you would prefer to protect your share of the property.
To ensure that it is adequately protected you should ensure that proper arrangements are made to ‘sever’ the joint tenancy.
